Words of a Feather presents 150 etymological pairs, such as gladiator & gladiolus, karaoke & karate, and negligee & negligent.
But there are thousands more. If you find an interesting pair and want to share it with other word lovers, this might be the place.
You can email us the etymological pair with a short essay using the format from Words of a Feather. (For samples, click here.)
If we don’t already have a similar essay, and if your essay is well written, we will publish it on this website. Each year, we’ll select the 10 best submissions. The author of each will receive a book from McGraw-Hill.
If we decide to use a submissions in a second volume of Words of a Feather, we will pay the author $10.
